Mom of Waffle House victim receives daughter鈥檚 diploma
NASHVILLE 鈥 A woman whose daughter was fatally shot at a Nashville Waffle House has accepted her diploma during a commencement ceremony.
蜜柚直播 outlets report Shirl Baker received a standing ovation as she walked across the stage in her daughter鈥檚 place Saturday at Belmont University.
Twenty-one-year-old DeEbony Groves majored in social work and was among four people killed when a gunman opened fire at the restaurant on April 22. Suspect Travis Reinking is facing multiple charges, including four counts of criminal homicide.
DeEbony鈥檚 brother, Di鈥橝ngelo Groves, also received his graduation diploma Saturday and wiped away tears when university officials announced a social work scholarship in his sister鈥檚 honor.

Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Burrows dies at 74
NEW YORK 鈥 Edwin Burrows, a historian who won a Pulitzer Prize for an epic overview of New York City鈥檚 early history, has died. He was 74.
Burrows and co-author Mike Wallace spent 20 years writing 鈥淕otham: A History of New York City to 1898,鈥 a massive book that narrated the city鈥檚 rise from Dutch outpost to the country鈥檚 hub for all things financial and cultural and that won the Pulitzer Prize for history in 1999.
Born in Detroit, Burrows went to the University of Michigan for his undergraduate degree and received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1973. He taught at Brooklyn College for more than 40 years.

Authorities: Inmate in custody after escaping courthouse
PAULS VALLEY 鈥 Authorities say an inmate who overpowered a deputy and escaped from a courthouse in southern Oklahoma is back in custody after five days of freedom.
Garvin County officials say 32-year-old Jason Glen Willis was recaptured Friday.
Authorities say Willis escaped on April 29. Sheriff Larry Rhodes says Willis was being escorted by a jailer to get ice when he fled. Willis was a jail worker and was being escorted through the courthouse while preparing for meal service.
Rhodes says Willis was tracked to a residence in Wynnewood, about 9 miles from the jail.

New church breaks ground after shooting massacre
SUTHERLAND SPRINGS 鈥 A new church has broken ground in the town of Sutherland Springs six months after a gunman killed more than two dozen people during a Sunday service.
Sherri Pomeroy of First Baptist Church says Saturday鈥檚 groundbreaking was held on the six-month anniversary of the deadliest mass shooting in Texas history to 鈥渃elebrate the lives that our friends and family lived.鈥
Pomeroy鈥檚 husband is the pastor of the church where Devin Patrick Kelley opened fire. Their 14-year-old daughter was among those killed. Authorities put the official death toll at 26 because one of the 25 people killed was pregnant.

Residents brace for highest flood waters in decades
BILLINGS 鈥 More than 800 western Montana residences were put on notice that they could have to evacuate in coming days as rivers swollen by melting mountain snows flooded low-lying areas of Missoula on Sunday.
Officials braced for a potentially prolonged inundation that one official said could be the worst in more than 40 years.
The Clark Fork River near Missoula was expected to approach major flood stage as early as Tuesday and to crest Friday.
