The clock is ticking for ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Opera and ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Theatre Company, both in the final days of intensive fundraising that promises extra funds if they reach their goals.
In early May, ATC announced that if the company raised $500,000 by the end of the fiscal year — which ends Tuesday — an anonymous donor promised to match it dollar for dollar.
The funds were raised, so the donor upped the challenge: Another $100,000, and the donor would match that, too. “We expect to meet that, as well,†said Matt Lehrman, interim managing director for the theater company.
Funds have come in from across the state, said Lehrman. But ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥, where ATC is headquartered, may end up showing a more generous hand than Phoenix. “By the end,†he said. “I suspect ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ will win the dollar race. But it was definitely a statewide effort, with good, healthy support from both cities.â€

In April, an anonymous donor promised ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Opera $100,000 if the company raised $400,000 by the end of the fiscal year, which also comes Tuesday for the organization.
There was a caveat, however — donations must come from all 50 states
The opera company dubbed it the “50 for 500†campaign. Donations have come from all the states, but the AO is making a final push to reach its dollar goal: $49,000 is needed, Ryan Taylor, general director of the opera company, said in an email.Â
