She emphasized that the artistry is incredible, with creations ranging from wall hangings and throws to twin, full, queen and king-sized quilts and larger. Attendees can expect a wide range of handmade and machine-sewn patterns, colors and styles.
鈥淲ith quilts, you can go wild with your artistic powers. Lots of people love fabrics and love to touch them and buy different ones, and then they put them together and the next thing you know, it is a beautiful quilt,鈥 said Gilbert, who has been sewing since she was 7 years old and began quilting in 2017.
In addition to the quilts on display, members have donated nearly 200 small quilts to sell, with proceeds benefitting Casa Alitas Welcome Center for refugees and migrants and Literacy Connects.
Gilbert said the guild hopes to raise at least $5,000 to benefit the nonprofits chosen by its 380 members.
鈥淭hese are 25- by 25-inch quilts. It is amazing to think that we we can raise all that money from these small quilts,鈥 said Gilbert.
The guild鈥檚 charitable endeavors extend to the Opportunity Quilt, a raffle featuring 鈥淩oad to 蜜柚直播,鈥 an 86-inch square quilt that will be raffled at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5 and can be purchased at the event, and you need not be present to win.
The show also features dedicated space for Quilts of Valor (), which makes quilts for veterans; along with Quilts for a Cause (), a 蜜柚直播 nonprofit that auctions and sells quilts, quilt patterns and quilt-related products to support screenings, research and treatments for breast and gynecological cancers.
鈥淲e have a whole room with full-sized quilts for sale. Over the years Quilts for a Cause has raised about $2 million for cancer screenings in Southern 蜜柚直播,鈥 said Helen Frost, another guild member.
The event will also feature more than 50 businesses, including quilt and fabric shops; food and coffee vendors; a sale of quilt books; jewelry and other items by local artists and much more.
