Rural Metro Fire Department crews responded to multiple emergency calls to rescue hikers as temperatures reached more than 100 degrees Thursday afternoon.
A woman was rescued one mile into the Douglas Springs Trailhead at Saguaro National Park for heat-related issues, a news release said. She was treated before being brought out with help from multiple agencies, including the U.S. National Park Service.Â
Three more hikers were taken to a hospital after being overwhelmed from intense heat in the Sabino Canyon Seven Falls trail, said John Walka, a fire department spokesman. Personnel from the Pinal County Sheriff's Office and Southern ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Rescue Association hiked about one mile to save the hikers.
The department urges hikers to avoid going out in triple-digit temperatures. "We notice that most hikers do not bring enough water and food for normal hiking trips which is important," the release said.
