Authorities are investigating the death of a "badly abused" dog that was recovered Friday morning on ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥'s east side.
Pima Animal Care Center officers responded at about 10 a.m. to a report of the dead dog near 8800 E. Broadway, located east of South Camino Seco, according to a news release.
The dog was recovered and taken to the animal shelter for further examination by medical staff, officials said. Authorities are treating the death as animal cruelty. Information about the dog's injuries were not released.
"We're actively working with TPD to bring justice to this poor dog," said José Ocaño, director of Pima Animal Care Center. "This cruelty case is devastating to our community and we won't rest until justice is served."
At this time, officials do not know the cause of death. The dog will undergo a necropsy and the case is being investigated collaboratively by animal care center officials and ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Police Department investigators, authorities said.
