Nine ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ students have won top awards at a national career and technical education competition for family and consumer sciences education.
Four students from Canyon del Oro High School and five from Mountain View High School, enrolled in Pima County Joint Technical Education District’s programs, won gold and silver medals at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee.
From CDO, the following students won:
- Lindsay Hoel, gold for entrepreneurship.
- Nicole Davis, gold for early childhood education.
- Tatiana Sierra, silver for early childhood education.
- Michelle Johnson, silver for career investigation.
From Mountain View:
- Jackie Lujan, gold for job interview.
- Brianna Burnett, gold for career investigation.
- Nancy Weiler, gold for teach and train.
- Alma Diaz and Marissa Duncan, silver for chapter service project.

Pima County Library offering free college prep programs
Beginning Monday, July 17, the Pima County Library will offer a series of free programs designed to help high school students build and expand the skills they’ll need to succeed in college.
The programs are open to the public and will be held in the 101Space for teens at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library, 101 N. Stone Ave.
Course offerings include:
- Monday, July 17: life skills, 9 a.m. to noon; job skills, 1 to 4 p.m.
- Tuesday, July 18: SAT readiness, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Wednesday, July 19: ACT readiness, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Thursday, July 20: financial skills, 9 a.m. to noon.
- Saturday, July 22: college prep day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring workshops on financial aid and recruiters from Pima Community College, the University of ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥, ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ State University and Northern ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ University.
New session starting at vocational school
A new session for Pima Vocational High School starts on July 19.
The school is still accepting students ages 16 to 21 for the program.
Students who are interested must attend a two-day orientation on July 13 and 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the south campus, 175 W. Irvington Road. To reserve a spot at the orientation, call 724-9740.
