An infant was killed in a two-vehicle crash on ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥'s southwest side Tuesday. Both the infant and a man were thrown from a car, authorities said.
The infant and man were taken to Banner-University Medical Center ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ by ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Fire Department paramedics, said Deputy Cody Gress, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman.
The man is in critical condition, Gress said.
The driver of the second car, which started on fire, refused to be transported to a hospital, said Tracy Koslowski, a Drexel Heights Fire District spokeswoman. She said the driver was a teen boy, and that his parents signed off on his decision not to seek medical care.
The crash, described as a T-bone, occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on South Mission Road and West Irvington Place, said Gress.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Mission is shut down from Irvington Road to Via Ingresso, which is south of West Ajo Way. Traffic is backed up north of West Ajo Way, and traffic on Ajo is backed up to Interstate 19.
