Paul Durham was the winner Tuesday night in the three-way primary fight for the Democratic nomination in City Council Ward 3.
Durham, an attorney and consultant, had a significant lead over Felicia Chew, a teacher, by about 700 votes, or about 46 percent to 32 percent, while businessman Tom Tronsdal was in third place with 22 percent of the vote. The top voter-getter advances to the November election.
The city said there were about 450 votes left to count in this race, which would occur later this week.
Durham will face Gary Watson, who is running as an independent, in November to replace the retiring City Councilwoman Karin Uhlich.Â
In Ward 6, Green Party candidate Mike Cease had a sizeable lead over Michael Oatman in early results.
No other races in the three ward primaries Tuesday were contested. Those candidates in uncontested races advance to the November general election.
