Pima County sheriff’s detectives arrested a 60-year-old school crossing guard Friday on suspicion of having images of sexual exploitation of a minor on his Google account.
Billy Cruz, a crossing guard with the Marana Unified School District was arrested at his residence in the 4100 block of West Avocado Street, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
Detectives received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding a report of “disturbing†images uploaded from a Google account in Pima County, the sheriff’s department said. Upon further investigation, the account was linked to Cruz.
Files found on Cruz’s account contained images “consistent with sexual exploitation of a minor,†the department said. Cruz was charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and was taken to the Pima County jail.

Tamara Crawley, Marana school district spokesperson, said in a press release that Cruz had been a crossing guard at Thornydale Elementary School and Tortolita Middle School since August 2012.
Crawley said sheriff’s deputies told the district the charges against Cruz do not involve any students or school property. Cruz went through a fingerprint and background check when he was hired, Crawley said. He was placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
