ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ firefighters knocked down a fire in an 8,000-square-foot building on the city's east side Monday night.
No one was injured in the Sept. 11 fire in the 1000 block of North Huntington Park Drive, which is south of East Speedway and west of North Camino Seco.
The fire was reported shortly before 6 p.m. by multiple 911-callers reporting black smoke coming from the structure, which was being used as storage, said Capt. Andy Skaggs of the ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Fire Department.
Crews battled the fire mostly from the exterior of the building until it was safe to enter. Firefighters saw smoke coming from an air-conditioning unit on the roof, and later noticed a unit leaning into the roof with the potential of falling through, creating a hazard for firefighters, Skaggs said.
Firefighters inside the building retreated and crews set up large hose streams and fought the fire from outside. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down and the smoke cleared, firefighters re-entered the building and put out hot spots, Skaggs said.
