The Pima Animal Care Center was able to send more than 3,000 pets to foster care in only one year.
Last year, PACC received a 3-year grant to help expand its foster care program. Eight months after receiving the grant, PACC was able to find foster homes for 3,251 pets, .
"The closest anyone has come to this is Ventura County who sent 2,800 pets to foster in one year," PACC Director of Animal Services Kristen Auerbach said in the release. She said as far as she knows, PACC has set a new national record.
Prior to receiving the grant, pets that were at-risk, sick, or recovering from surgeries, were the main focus of PACC's foster care. But now, PACC is also able to focus on finding foster families for older pets, pets with behavioral problems, and "pets who could simply use a break from the shelter," the release says.
