In a highly-anticipated season opener, Deandre Ayton shined in his NBA debut as the Phoenix Suns powered past the Dallas Mavericks 121-100 on Wednesday night.Â
The top draft pick and former ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Wildcat scored 18 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the field and grabbed 10 rebounds. Ayton also dished out 6 assists.
Phoenix's starting lineup included star guard Devin Booker, Isaiah Canaan, Ryan Anderson and Trevor Ariza.Â
Matched up against Dallas' Slovenian rookie Luka Doncic and newly acquired DeAndre Jordan, Ayton was active early and finished the first quarter with eight points on 3 of 3 shooting and three rebounds.Â
At halftime, Ayton had 10 points and five rebounds.Â
The Suns pulled away in the second half behind Booker's 19-point performance in the fourth quarter, finishing with a game-high 35.Â

Doncic had 10 points on 0 of 5 shooting from 3-point range and grabbed eight rebounds.Â
Ayton and Booker combined for 53 points on 67 percent shooting, 14 rebounds and 13 assists as the Suns began their season 1-0 for the first time since 2014.Â
Phoenix will take two days off before playing the Denver Nuggets on the road at 6 p.m. on Saturday.Â
