Other than center Motiejus Krivas, who was shelved for the rest of the season after eight games when his preseason foot/ankle injury returned, the ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Wildcats had not been without a rotation player for any game this season.
That changed Saturday, when forward Trey Townsend was lost to concussion protocol in what may have been a late-developing situation. Townsend hit his head 55 seconds into the second half of UA’s win at BYU and did not return, but did not develop concussion symptoms until after returning to ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥.
It was not clear if UA had placed him into concussion protocol before Saturday’s game, but UA coach Tommy Lloyd did not indicate he was. During his weekly press conference Friday, Lloyd was asked about Townsend's fall and the poke in the eye suffered by center Tobe Awaka against the Cougars.
"I think we're business as usual," Lloyd said. "I don't think there's anything that's come out of that at all."

There is no timeline for Townsend's return, though concussion protocols usually last at least a week, so it is possible he could return Tuesday at Kansas State. UA issued a statement saying only that Townsend's status would continue to be evaluated.
Meanwhile, UA guard KJ Lewis wore a red wrap on his right wrist after it was banged up at BYU but played Saturday.
McKale tailgate
ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ tried livening up the pregame scene outside the north entrance to McKale Center with live music, football player autographs, corn hole and pop-a-shots.
Lifesize murals of Miles Simon and Gilbert Arenas in action at ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ were also on hand.
The football players on hand for the signings included Chase Kennedy, Kris Hutson, Michael Dansby, Rhino Tapa’atoutai, Dalton Johnson, Chubba Ma’ae, Jack Luttrell, Dominic Lolesio, Ka‘ena Decambra and Gio Richardson.

Siren delays tipoff
ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥â€™s pregame show featured a siren in the background on Saturday, but it wasn’t intentional.
An announcement was made at 8:40 p.m. that the siren was believed to be a false alarm, and the noise stopped. But white emergency lights still flickered at McKale, delaying tipoff until 8:46 p.m.
While the players, coaches and fans stood around during those uneventful six minutes, UA attempted to keep up the adrenaline by pumping in Led Zeppelin over the speakers.
Super what?
To UA coach Tommy Lloyd, there may have been only one big game scheduled this weekend.
Asked if he had a pick for Sunday’s Super Bowl on Friday, Lloyd looked somewhat blank.
“Who’s playing?†Lloyd said.
Told it was the Chiefs and Eagles, Lloyd referred to his staff's interests. His associate head coach Jack Murphy is a diehard Eagles fan, in part because he’s a Las Vegas native who watched Randall Cunningham star at UNLV before playing quarterback for Philadelphia.
Lloyd’s director of basketball operations, Evan Manning, is a Chiefs fan for fairly obvious reasons: The son of Kansas legend Danny Manning, Evan grew up just about an hour away from Kansas City, Mo., in Lawrence, Kansas.
“I’ll let those two battle it out,†Lloyd said. “I’m just gonna focus on the Red Raiders.â€
