New ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Wildcats coach Kevin Sumlin already has secured his first recruit.
Cienega dual-threat quarterback Jamarye Joiner tweeted Tuesday that he is sticking to his commitment and coming to the UA.
Joiner committed to ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ in September 2016 but left open the possibility that he would attend another school. He had offers from ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ State, Central Florida and Nebraska, and he had a visit lined up to Alabama.
However, with the news that ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ had hired Sumlin – who vowed Tuesday to run a similar but more aggressive version of Rich Rodriguez’s spread offense – Joiner decided to end the process and speculation.
“After sitting down with my family and a lot of prayer, we have decided to shut down my recruiting and stay home,†tweeted Joiner, who added that he’s “110 percent†committed to ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥.

Joiner is the only quarterback in ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥â€™s 2018 class. The position could take a big hit from a depth perspective if veteran Brandon Dawkins and freshman Rhett Rodriguez (Rich’s son) elect to transfer. Another quarterback, Donavan Tate, left after the fall semester.
Khalil Tate (no relation to Donavan) will enter spring practice as the prohibitive favorite to start. The other scholarship quarterback on the roster is freshman K’Hari Lane.
