Record-setting performances by ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ quarterback Noah Fifita and wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan in the Wildcats’ 59-23 Territorial Cup win over ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ State in Tempe resulted in the duo earning weekly — and potentially last-ever — Pac-12 awards.
McMillan was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for the first time of his career, while Fifita was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season, which is a conference record. McMillan is the first Wildcat to receive the award since quarterback Jayden de Laura’s season-opening performance in 2022.
ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ safety Gunner Maldonado was nominated for Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week following his 10-tackle and two-takeaway performance.
It’s the first time McMillan received Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week recognition after earning Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors twice last season. McMillan had 11 catches for 266 yards and a touchdown against the Sun Devils on Saturday, which is a Territorial Cup record; he’s the only player in the rivalry’s history to have over 200 receiving yards in a contest.

McMillan’s Territorial Cup performance is also the second-most receiving yards in a game behind Jeremy McDaniel, who had 283 yards against Cal in 1996. McMillan moved ahead of Juron Criner for fourth-most receiving yards (1,242) in a single season by a Wildcat. McMillan is behind Dennis Northcutt, Bobby Wade and Austin Hill. McMillan needs three more yards to pass Samajie Grant for ninth all-time in career receiving yards. McMillan has 10 touchdowns this season and is two touchdowns shy of the single-season school record.
“The guy has made a ton of plays for us down the field, intermediate, in screen game and we just continued to do that during the game,†ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ head coach Jedd Fisch said of McMillan during his news conference on Monday.
Fifita, McMillan’s longtime teammate going back to their youth football days in the eighth grade, passed for a school-record 527 yards, which is also a Territorial Cup record for both programs, and five touchdowns. Fifita quarterbacked the Wildcats to five straight touchdown drives. His only two blemishes on Saturday were an incomplete pass to Jacob Cowing on third-and-10 that forced the Wildcats to attempt a field goal at the end of the first half and an interception on ASU’s 5-yard line in the fourth quarter.
“Outside of those couple plays, he was pretty close to perfect, the way he played. ... You take those couple plays out, he was as good as any quarterback that I’ve been around in regards to decision-making, in regards to accuracy, getting out trouble, completing the ball down field, completing the ball mid-range,†Fisch said.
Fisch said Fifita and McMillan “have a great connection in terms of where they’re going to be on every single play when the ball is in the air to go attack it.â€
“I think they’re both separately very good players, too,†he said. “Sometimes we’re just combining them and (saying) one is not good without the other. I don’t think that’s the case. T-Mac was a phenomenal player last year, phenomenal the first four games of this year. Noah has played extremely well since he’s stepped in. Having T-Mac as a receiver for him is obviously something special, because they’ve done it for so long.
“But in the end, they find each other, they work together with each other, but they’re both independently outstanding football players, not just collectively.â€
