鈥淓clectic鈥 is the first word that comes to mind when Jorge Vergeli describes his art.

When asked to describe his artwork, Jorge Vergeli used the word 鈥渆clectic.鈥
鈥淚 continuously create something new and envision something new or try to mix new materials,鈥 he says. 鈥淪o, 鈥榚clectic鈥 is a good word.鈥
Vergeli鈥檚 work ranges from yard decorations to geometric wall decor to sculptures that could be used as table centerpieces. He uses a mix of materials including metal, wood and acrylic.

Before the pandemic, Vergeli enjoyed the connections that he made with people while selling works at fairs and shows.
Most of Vergeli鈥檚 creations include a blend of more than one material 鈥 the cork of a wine bottle, a sparkly rock from 蜜柚直播鈥檚 gem show or the bristles of a brush, for example.
鈥淪ometimes I see something 鈥 a piece by itself 鈥 and I go, 鈥榃ow, that鈥檚 a wing,鈥欌 he says. And even though the piece is actually just a salvaged piece of metal, he鈥檒l use it to make the wing for a sculpture of a bird.

Other times, he might not have as much of a vision and will instead take recycled materials and start putting them together with no real plan in mind.
鈥淚 always think in terms of building and creating something,鈥 says Vergeli, who is from Argentina and now lives in 蜜柚直播. 鈥淚 see objects and I go, 鈥極h, wow, maybe if I can put this here or there, maybe I can build something.鈥 It鈥檚 fun.鈥
In the early 2000s, Vergeli spent time at the wood shop at Flowing Wells High School.
鈥淚 would get all the negatives they discarded and it was gold to me,鈥 he says.
He says his motivation can be 鈥渆lusive鈥 sometimes. 鈥淥ther times, I wake up at 3 o鈥檆lock in the morning and say, 鈥楾his is what I want to do.鈥欌

鈥淚 see objects and I go, 鈥極h, wow, maybe if I can put this here or there, maybe I can build something,鈥欌 Jorge Vergeli says.
Vergeli says he鈥檚 been creative since he was a kid 鈥 always doodling or drawing.

Jorge Vergeli has been interested in art since he was a kid.
鈥淎 friend of mine from Argentina said, 鈥業 knew you were going to be an artist,鈥欌 Vergeli says. 鈥淭his was someone I was friends with when I was 8, 9 10.鈥
But Vergeli, 68, says his journey in art really began at the age of 16 when he made a tapestry from wood, rope and burlap.
He says he鈥檚 mostly self-taught, though he went to school and studied lithographs and serigraphs. In the 1970s, he worked with a friend who was a fashion designer. That venture is what really sparked his interest in 3D designs, he said.
Vergeli, who has worked full-time as an interpreter for 40 years, came to the United States in 1971 鈥 first to New York then to Washington, D.C., and Florida and back to New York. He came to 蜜柚直播 in the 鈥90s.
Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Vergeli often attended fairs, art shows and galleries. He says he鈥檚 preferred that method, versus solely selling his art online, because he enjoys making connections with people.
鈥淧eople would say, 鈥楨very morning I look at your piece and I smile,鈥欌 Vergeli says.

Vergeli uses his talents to create works that you can hang on your wall, use as a table centerpiece or put in your yard.
