Overcoming Challenges
Nicolet has always met challenges head-on. The first of his family to enter law school, he pursued his dream despite not knowing exactly what to expect in his chosen field. He overcame every obstacle to accomplish his goal, even though he sometimes didn’t know how to make things work.
Nicolet asserts that the key to his success was his constant quest for more knowledge. He actively sought out mentors as he strove to improve his knowledge base. Those mentors in the legal profession helped him significantly hone his skills.

He also spent an abundant amount of time doing research in the Washington County Law Library. Even though Nicolet was a brand new attorney, his determination to effectively handle client cases was a driving force in those early days.
“I think becoming obsessed with getting clients’ problems solved and wanting to get better was what really made a difference for me,†Nicolet says.
Choosing Personal Injury Law
As a young attorney, Nicolet was involved in general litigation at the start of his career. This placed him close to lawyers who practiced different areas of the law. Even those who were his opposition gave him opportunities to learn more about the law.
“As a young attorney, I tried to soak up as much as I could from all the attorneys I came across,†he explains.
Nicolet says he had the “pleasure of meeting†outstanding attorneys in those early days and gleaned as much knowledge as he could from his interactions. Eventually, he decided to focus on personal injury law, and the pool of attorneys he could learn from in his area became much smaller.
It was then Nicolet realized it was time to expand his horizons beyond the borders of the states of Wisconsin and Minnesota. He started traveling to other states to train with some of the best injury law attorneys in the United States.
“I have been to Florida, Georgia, New York, and California several times to learn from the best of the best of trial lawyers,†Nicolet adds.
Starting His Own Law Firm
In the beginning, Nicolet Law Accident & Injury Lawyers had only one lawyer: Russell Nicolet. He says his primary goal was to help the “hard-working people and families in the Midwest†receive the justice they deserved and not “stop fighting for those people.â€
Over time, the expanded to cover three states and employ dozens of employees. As Nicolet puts it, each person who works for the law firm believes their job is a “calling to help, serve, and stand up for those that need it most.â€
Nicolet plans to continue to grow his law firm as he and his team of attorneys hold insurance companies and large companies accountable for the injuries inflicted on his clients.Â
“My most notable highlights have been results for the great people who I have had the honor to represent. I have settled and taken cases to verdict which include some of the largest amounts awarded in those counties. Additionally, I have had the privilege to help guide and support other lawyers at my firm in obtaining outstanding settlements and verdicts as well,†he concludes.Â
