We asked Bishop Gerald Kicanas of the Diocese of ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ to share some fun facts about himself as he approaches retirement. Here are his written responses, edited for space.
Favorite places: “My favorite places to go in ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ would be up to the Catalina Mountains to Summerhaven and hiking in Sabino Canyon. Love hiking and hope to do more after retirement.â€
Favorite foods: “I have been a vegetarian since 1985 when I had a heart episode. … Finally went to the doctor, and they found three blockages. … Had successful angioplasty, no stents, and thought I would give the vegetarian meal a try. Love Tasteful Kitchen and Lovin’ Spoonfuls.â€
How you relax: “I enjoy reading novels, going to symphony and plays. I exercise most every day at LA Fitness. … Love running outdoors the most, although the back doesn’t put up with it as much as in the past.â€

Childhood career goals: “I wanted to play for the Chicago White Sox, wanted to be a teacher or a psychologist.â€
Little known fact: “My front teeth are false from a baseball in the mouth when I went out to catch a fly ball. Clearly not material for the White Sox.â€
