The Pima County Sheriff's Department is asking the public to avoid Tanque Verde Falls today, as upcoming storms are expected to bring an increased risk of flash flooding to the area.
Rainfall from yesterday's storms have caused the water level in the falls area to be rise to three times the level they were last Sunday, when 17 people had to be rescued from the area by search and rescue volunteers, according to a news release.
Shortly after 2 p.m., officials closed Redington Road at milepost two and urged hikers at Sabino and Bear Canyons to head down to safety, as those areas are also at an increased risk of flash flooding.
