Autumn color might be peaking in forests high in the Catalina Mountains north of ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥, but don’t overlook the desert’s flushes of fall.
Some cacti, late-blooming wildflowers and other desert plants are flashing their own bright hues of red, yellow and rust this week.
One place to see some desert autumn color is Sabino Canyon northeast of ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥.
There, along the short Bajada Loop Trail and longer trails in the canyon, you’re likely to see pleasing bits of color if you watch carefully. But don’t expect expanses of red and golden hues like those in some mountain forests.
Among the plants that offer some colorful contrasts to the normal green and brown tones of the desert landscape:
-  Barrel cacti, some of which produce bright red-orange blooms
-  Creosote bushes with yellow flowers
-  Cacti with yellow fruits
-  At least two species of flowers with delicate yellow blooms
-  Low-growing plants with vine-like tendrils changing from green to rust-red hues
