Robinson, 26, was riding the skateboard when he was struck by a truck on East Lee Street, near North Craycroft Road, according to a ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Police Department Facebook post.

Officers and ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Fire Department paramedics responded to a report of the crash at 7 a.m. in the central neighborhood. 

Robinson was taken to Banner-University Medical Center ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ with life-threatening injuries and he died at the hospital, police said.

The driver of the 2004 Isuzu flatbed truck was not injured.

Traffic detectives said the motorized skateboard included a seat and T-style handle bars. Investigators learned that Robinson was traveling east on Lee, just east of Craycroft on the northern sidewalk and entered the road through a private drive cutout.

A white van was parked along the northern curb, just east of the private drive, and as Robinson maneuvered around the van he was struck head-on by the driver of the truck that was heading west on Lee, police said.

Robinson was not wearing a helmet or safety gear, said police.

Neither speed nor impairments appear to be factors in the crash, investigators said.

Since January, there have been nine traffic fatalities in the city, compared to six at this time last year, according to police data.
