DNA evidence helped lead to the arrest of a 22-year-old in connection with a 2024 arson fire at a small Marana church, authorities say.
Amarion Person, who already was at the Pima County jail on an unrelated burglary case, has been charged with suspicion of arson of an occupied structure, criminal damage exceeding $10,000, and criminal trespass, Marana police said.
The fire took place about 9:30 p.m. Oct. 25, 2024, at Living Word Baptist Church, 13526 N. Sandario Road. The building was engulfed with flames by the time help arrived, police said.
Marana police said the fire at the church, which has about 50 members, was likely a crime of opportunity.
The investigation continues.
