The ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Police Department is investigating a homicide where a woman was found dead by the suspect's mother Thursday night.
Officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of East Teton Road for reports of a female found unresponsive around 10:00 p.m. The female, identified as 18-year-old Yocelyn Ozuna Ortega, was found with obvious signs of gunshot trauma and pronounced dead at the scene, the department said.
Detectives with the homicide unit learned Ortega lived with her boyfriend, 27-year-old Jose Islas-Garcia. There was a history of domestic violence between the two and they were arguing the day of the incident.
Islas-Garcia's mother, who lives next door to the couple, went to check in at the residence after seeing her son leave by himself earlier in the evening. She found Ortega unresponsive inside.
The department obtained a felony arrest warrant for Islas-Garcia on one count of first degree murder. He turned himself in at the border after detectives feared he fled to Mexico. Islas-Garcia has been booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.
