John Court has been named the UA gymnastics team's interim head coach, one day after Tabitha Yim left the Wildcats for Stanford.
Court will run the program during the 2017-18 season, athletic director Dave Heeke said Thursday night. Court has been a member of the Wildcats' staff for the past 19 seasons under coaches Bill Ryden and Yim. Court and fellow assistant David McCreary were initially tabbed to share the duties. The UA announced Court's promotion shortly before 5 p.m.
“John’s knowledge and understanding of our program, combined with his coaching acumen, make him the right person to serve as our interim head coach,†Heeke said in a news release. “He brings a wealth of experience to the position and gives the program an opportunity at a smooth transition so the group can focus on their upcoming season.â€
Court, whose specialty is vault and floor exercises, has also served as the Wildcats' longtime recruiting coordinator. Before joining the UA, he spent five years at Vermont, the last three as head coach.
