Sabino’s 10th-seeded girls basketball team will take on No. 2 Fort Defiance Window Rock in the Class 3A state quarterfinals, played at the Prescott Valley Event Center. The game is scheduled to tip at 4:15 p.m. The Sabercats are led by freshman guard Kamryn Doty, who is averaging 19.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and five steals per game. No other player on Sabino’s roster averages more than 6.7 points per game.

Sabino’s game kicks off a busy week for local teams. Sabino’s boys team, seeded eighth in the 3A boys bracket, will face No. 1 Lakeside Blue Ridge at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Prescott. Their game comes just after No. 12 Empire faces No. 4 Valley Christian in another quarterfinal game.

Also Tuesday, No. 3 Sahuaro will take on No. 2 Gilbert Mesquite in the Class 5A state semifinals in Tempe. The game tips off at 3 p.m. inside Wells Fargo Arena.

Two local teams play in Friday’s state semifinals. Second-seeded Pueblo will face No. 3 Flagstaff in the Class 4A girls semifinals at 4:15 p.m., with the 10th-seeded Salpointe Catholic boys taking on No. 2 Buckeye Union immediately after. Both games will be played at Grand Canyon University.

The winner of Friday’s games advance to the state title games.
