Nogales hung around with host Walden Grove for a half on Friday night, but the Red Wolves took control in the second half to post another dominating win.
The Apaches were no match for the Red Wolves in the third quarter as Walden Grove broke open a close game and won 48-7.
The win moves the Red Wolves to 5-1 overall, while the Apaches fell to 2-4. Walden Grove has won four games in a row, outscoring opponents 200-15 during that stretch.
Red Wolves quarterback Nick Flores gave the Nogales defense plenty of problems all night. Flores used his scrambling abilities on several occasions to extend drives and was accurate downfield, connecting on a 21-yard pass to receiver Matt De La Ossa to put Walden Grove up 14-7 at halftime.
Flores threw for three touchdowns overall.
“Jordan had a mismatch and we just wanted to expose that,†Flores said. “They weren’t going to dictate what we did, we just wanted to do what we do and score.â€

In the third quarter it all fell apart for Nogales. Walden Grove put the game away, scoring 20 points in the quarter, capped by a Jordan Lopez 43-yard touchdown reception to give the Red Wolves a 34-7 lead going into the final quarter.
Ty Chapman hauled in a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown during the quarter and Lopez brought down another 8-yard pass for the score to contribute to the 20-point barrage.
“During halftime we came in and had a talk and just talked about not making mistakes and we came out with energy,†Lopez said. “Their corners weren’t the tallest and we had size so we just wanted to take advantage of that ... Nothing is perfect right now so we just need to keep improving.â€
Nogales quarterback Josue Tapia, who found some open receivers in the first quarter, was battered in the pocket, throwing three interceptions.
“We started to exploit his tendencies and we were able to force some turnovers,†said Walden Grove middle linebacker Matt Annett.
After the game it was announced that Walden Grove’s Corey Noble was no longer the interim head coach and will officially take over the program.
“It’s awesome, it’s pretty special, it’s pretty exciting stuff,†Noble said.
Walden Grove’s win sets up a matchup with 5-1 Salpointe next Friday. The Lancers are coming off a loss to Cienega on Thursday.
