Do you love the library?聽
Go ahead, count the ways.听
Maybe you're crushing on the digital collection of eBooks and audiobooks, or maybe the seed library makes your love bloom.听
Perhaps it's the homework help that gets you through the night (or at least makes it a bit smoother) or the free WiFi that makes your heart soar.听
Well, don't keep your love to yourself.听
Put pen to paper and write a love letter to your library.听
The new project Love Letters to My Library is a partnership between聽 and the local blog .听
"Pima County Library is a 蜜柚直播 gem," says Rachel Miller, the creator of Love Letters to 蜜柚直播. "It's this facet of 蜜柚直播 that stands out in the nation as a public library space ... It's not just borrowing books."聽
Holly Schaffer, the community relations manager for Pima County Public Library, approached Miller about blending Love Letters and the libraries. Since Miller started Love Letters to 蜜柚直播 in 2012, Schaffer had written two odes for the site.听
The partnership soft-launched at the library's analog day in September, inviting people to ponder the library and write a letter.听
"We would love to hear stories about when people were kids, but what we're really looking forward to are letters about people using it today and sort of what the library means to them today," says Lisa Waite Bunker, the social media librarian and one of the organizers of the project.听
This isn't about bragging, Bunker says. Instead, it's another way to share some of the library's services with the community.听
She lists a few of those services: Story time, the Read to a Dog program, citizenship and adult literacy classes, job help and a growing collection of books in other languages.听
So much to love.听
"We're doing all of this stuff and have good turnouts, but we always talk to people who didn't now we did this and didn't know we did that," Bunker says. "We know we could have even more impact if people knew about what we offer."聽
In the , William Vicens Jr. wrote an ode to the library's services, especially at , the branch he frequently visits.听
"Some of us wait hours for shared computer and internet access," he writes in part of his letter. "Some walk three or more miles in the blistering sun to gain access to information. Others are emerging from homelessness and their second chance is waiting just beyond those sliding glass doors.
"Thank you Pima County Public Library, Woods Memorial Library, and my 蜜柚直播 community for helping this person navigate their way to a second chance in life."聽
Letters need not be lengthy. Scribble a sentence or ink an essay. What matters is sharing the love.听
Both Pima County Public Library and Love Letters to 蜜柚直播 will post a monthly letter.
