Austin-based singer-songwriter Molly Burch has only been headlining since last October, but she thinks she鈥檚 getting the hang of being on the top of the marquee.
鈥淚 think in October, because it was the first time, I had no idea what to expect. I think there were some more nerves, but it was a really great experience,鈥 said the 28-year-old Los Angeles native who has made her home in Texas for the past six years. 鈥淣ow I definitely feel more comfortable and I鈥檓 really happy with the turnout. I feel good about where we鈥檙e at right now.鈥
Burch brings the West Coast leg of her 鈥淔irst Flower鈥 tour to 蜜柚直播鈥檚 191 Toole on Thursday, Aug. 22 鈥 the second time she has played 蜜柚直播 since she released her sophomore album last October. 蜜柚直播鈥檚 own Brian Lopez opens the show along with Jackie Cohen, who will join Burch on dates in California, Oregon, Washington and Utah through early September.

Burch, a big fan of 蜜柚直播 and its music community, played Club Congress not long after 鈥淔irst Flower鈥 dropped last fall. Over the past couple years, she鈥檚 played several 蜜柚直播 shows at Congress.
鈥淚 love coming to 蜜柚直播,鈥 she said during a phone call from Austin last week. 鈥淭his is our first time playing at 191 Toole; I鈥檝e only played at Club Congress but I鈥檓 super excited.鈥
鈥淔irst Flower鈥 is Burch鈥檚 second full-length album. She鈥檚 also recorded a pair of two-song EPS, including 鈥淏allads,鈥 which she released in early August. 鈥淏allads鈥 includes two songs that she originally recorded for 鈥淔irst Flower.鈥
Burch鈥檚 2017 debut album 鈥淧lease Be Mine鈥 was lauded by critics impressed with her smoky vocals and heart-wrenching lyrics of unrequited romance. Burch penned the album not long after studying jazz vocal performance at the University of North Carolina in Asheville. According to her bio, she left Asheville for Texas following a devastating heartbreak.
Burch toured 鈥淧lease Be Mine鈥 around the country and in Europe, mostly as an opening act or in small clubs. The experience has served her well, she said, as a headliner.
鈥淚鈥檝e been super happy with the album and the tour,鈥 she said of 鈥淔irst Flower.鈥 鈥淚 think this tour is the end cycle of my album and I do feel really good where it鈥檚 at. I鈥檓 looking forward to writing new music.鈥
