A 911 call for a welfare check led ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ police officers to the discovery of a murder-suicide on the northwest side Friday evening, authorities said.
At about 6 p.m., police responded to the 1700 block of East Saint Jonas Place after an out-of-state 911 caller asked officers to check on a family member who wasn't returning phone calls, said department spokesman Sgt. Pete Dugan.
After no one answered the front door when officers attempted to make contact, officers were able to see through the window a man and woman that appeared to be unresponsive in the living room, Dugan said.
Through an unlocked door, officers gained entry and discovered that the people were dead with obvious signs of gunshot trauma.
Based on homicide detectives' initial investigation and evidence found in the home, police believe that the man shot and killed the woman before turning the gun on himself, Dugan said.
