A man who was fatally struck by a vehicle as he crossed the street Monday night was identified as Mario Cortes. He was 70, police said.
Cortes was hit at about 8 p.m. Oct. 2 at North Campbell Avenue and East Mitchell Street.
The neighborhood is north of East Grant Road.
Cortes was taken to Banner-University Medical Center ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥, where he was later pronounced dead, said Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Police Department spokeswoman.
Detectives determined that Cortes was on the southwest side of the intersection and was crossing eastbound across Campbell. As he crossed in an unmarked crosswalk he was struck by a dark-colored vehicle that was northbound on Campbell.
The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene and remains at large, police said. The vehicle should have front-end damage. Investigators continue searching for the driver and vehicle.Â
