Pet owners worried about the Fourth of July celebrations can take steps to prevent pets from becoming lost.
The Pima Animal Care Center recommends owners:
• Keep pets inside during the fireworks.
• Make sure pet wears proper up-to-date identification in case they become lost.
• Provide your pet with calming and distracting items, such as classical music, wearable calming materials, or enrichment toys such as a one with peanut butter inside.
• Get your pet microchipped beforehand and keep your contact info up to date.
The shelter is still offering free microchips for pets at 4000 N. Silverbell Road through July 3.
