After shutting out then-No. 8 UCLA, ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Wildcats junior Cody Deason has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week.
The right-hander struck out a career-high 11 batters and threw his first career complete game as ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ defeated UCLA 2-0 Thursday.
Deason allowed five hits and one walk while throwing 90 of 139 pitches for strikes. He became the first UA pitcher to hurl a shutout since JC Cloney in Game 1 of the 2016 College World Series finals against Coastal Carolina.
Deason improved his record to 5-4 and lowered his ERA to 2.36. He leads the Wildcats in innings (72 1/3) and strikeouts (72) and has limited hitters to a .197 batting average.
Deason is the first Wildcat to be named Pac-12 pitcher or player of the week this season.
ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ (28-17, 10-11 Pac-12) returns to action Tuesday night against Grand Canyon. The final midweek home game of the season starts at 6 p.m. at Hi Corbett Field.
