Catcher Gwen Svekis hit two home runs, including a three-run homer that broke a tie in the sixth inning, and fifth-ranked Oregon beat the ninth-ranked ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ Wildcats 5-2 on Friday night in Eugene, Oregon.
Svekis’ home runs spelled disaster for UA ace Taylor McQuillin, who surrendered five runs — her most since opening day — and four hits. She allowed just one hit in the first five innings before the floodgates opened in the sixth. She struck out three but walked five.
ÃÛèÖÖ±²¥ was led at the plate by Jessie Harper, who went 2 for 2 with a pair of doubles. Reyna Carranco returned from a concussion to register a seventh-inning double.
The Wildcats and Ducks will play again Saturday at noon. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
